The first two cards are dealt to the player’s hand and the banker’s hand. If either hand has a total of eight or nine, this is called a “natural” and is considered an automatic win. If neither hand has a natural, the cards are drawn again. All other cards are assigned a value of face value, with the exception of 10-count cards. The highest value is nine. If any card is a 10-count card, that card is discarded. Similarly, if the total of the cards is thirteen or more, the first digit is dropped from the total.
The house edge is about 1.24% on the player bet, while the house edge on the banker bet is about 1.06 percent. A good baccarat strategy aims to identify which hand is the player or the banker.
